MUSEUM OF THE WATER IN THE OLD FLOURING MILL OF LA HIRUELA
The flouring mill of La Hiruela is located on the Jarama River, moved away from the present population nucleus of La Hiruela, in a unique natural environment of great landscaping value.
In its origin, this mill was used to grind the cereals grains, thanks to the river waters, entrusted to move the two water-wheels which it had, at the same time connected with two grinding stones. The mill had, in addition, a zone to store the grain and the miller’s house.
During a long time, the mill of La Hiruela remained abandoned. At the present time it has been restored and can be visited as an authentic museum of the water.
For the reconstruction of the internal mechanisms, new pieces have been used, although other original ones have been conserved.
