LANDSCAPE. THE RELIEF
The relief of Sierra del Rincón is characterized to form a mountainous string in all its North, East and South sectors. In the most northern scope, the Cebollera bulk and its slopes are developed, formed by the summits El Coto de Montejo (2047 m) and Cebollera Vieja (1834 m). The limit of the municipality of Montejo with the province of Guadalajara coincides with the fluvial source of Jarama River.
The western reliefs are articulated in two valleys: those ones of La Hiruela and La Puebla. The valley of La Hiruela is delimited by summits that rise to 1.503 m of altitude in La Maleza, 1.637 m in Bañaderos and 1.824 m in El Porrejón, while their slopes formed on rocky materials descend towards the Jarama River. The valley of La Puebla, with a remarkably greater dimension than the one of La Hiruela, is organized as an enclosed structure around a narrow flat bottom in which the village centre is located.
The mountain, formed by ordovicic materials, rises abruptly in relation to tardihercinic and alpine period’s fracturation. The valley is a drainage river basin whose mountainous north, east and west edges form, altogether, a concave arc oriented towards the south.
The altitude difference with respect to the low slopes scopes is appreciable, reason why it can be considered as a whole like a mountainous area. Monotony and isoaltitude of the surrounding reliefs, especially those of the northwest and the west sectors with ample valleys and smooth and ridged forms contrast with the great richness of forms and the inner division of the mountain ranges reliefs.
