ECOSYSTEMS. REFORESTATIONS OF MIXED AND MONOSPECIFIC PINE GROVES
Reforested masses are mainly of Pinus sylvestris although some masses of P. nigra and P. pinaster can be foundand even mixed masses of these species. They are located on the high slopes and some summits and have their origin in the former pastures of Comunidad de la Villa y Tierra de Buitrago, bought later by Patrimonio Forestal del Estado (Forest Patrimony of the State).

The reforestations beginning comes from the end of the fifties of XX century and they extend, in some cases, until the eighties of he same century. Although the arboreal canopy density frequently prevents the colonization of other forest species, sectors in which the cover of Quercus pyrenaica gets to be 40% (valley of Puebla de la Sierra) are observed.
The ecological conditions improvement that is provided by pine trees facilitates the colonization and proliferation of native species belonging to the final stages in the ecological succession, as pyrenaican oaks, oaks, holm oaks or beechs, as well as contributing to the subjection to the ground on which it is.
This ecosystem has a high environmental value not only due to its subjection capacity to the ground in a severe slopes orography or because of supposing an ecological conditions improvement for the final stage species introduction, but also for being a source of income, as the wood and the hunting.
