The name of Montejo de la Sierra, before called Montejo del Rincón, seems to have its origin in its location in a very mountainous zone with a summit that, as in the case of the Coto de Montejo, the 2000 m of altitude are exceeded.
Respecting to the nature, extensive prairies, pine groves, deciduous forests, oak groves and pyrenaican oak groves flank the reduced zones of beech forest, declared Natural Site of National Interest due to be one of the most southern ones of Europe, known as Hayedo de Montejo.
In its habitats we can find wild cats, badgers, roe deers, wild boars, diverse predatories like real eagles or falcons and otters in the Jarama River.
