MUNICIPALITIES. HORCAJUELO DE LA SIERRA
To 90 km from Madrid, Horcajuelo de la Sierra hoards a valuable and well conserved architectonic patrimony integrated in the landscape in such a way that borders between its constructions, of dark stone, pyrenaican oak groves and meadows that surround it do not seem to exist.
The streams that surround Horcajuelo have drilled the ground even leaving the village in a hill, to 1.145 m. of altitude. In fact, the name of Horcajuelo seems to come from the “gift”, which La Garita and Grande streams that surrounds to the village have formed.

The municipal term, located in southern foothills of Somosierra, is constituted by the La Garita stream valley and the slopes that descend from the Coto de Montejo hill and Cebollera Nueva towards the south, crossed by innumerable paths and footpaths by which to take a walk.
This natural environment includes pine groves and other forests in which we can find oaks, pyrenaican oaks, junipers, poplars, alders, ashs, cherry trees or holly trees, as well as pastures, crop areas and other agricultural zones, today colonized by the natural vegetation. Between the fauna, roe deers, real wild boars, foxes, eagles and owls, carabuses or vultures are emphasized.
