GEOGRAPHIC SITUATION

Sierra del Rincón Biosphere Reserve is located in Spain, in the northeastern part of the Community of Madrid, in the mountain scope of contact of Sierra de Ayllón and Somosierra of the Sistema Central Español (Spanish Central System). It is integrated by five municipalities: La Hiruela, Horcajuelo de la Sierra, Montejo de la Sierra, Prádena del Rincón and Puebla de la Sierra. It is delimited to the north by Somosierra tops, to the east by the Jarama River and the mountain range of Puebla de la Sierra, limiting with the province of Guadalajara, to the south by the region of Buitrago and to the west by Somosierra foothills. All the villages are over the 1.000 m of altitude and their municipal regions extend from the valley bottoms to the summit crests of 1.800 – 2.000 m of altitude, forming a relief consisting on valleys with pronounced slopes fitted between mountain ranges and mounts.
