GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Sierra del Rincón Biosphere Reserve is located in the northeastern part of the Community of Madrid, between the 900 and the 2.047 ms of altitude, and include the municipalities of Horcajuelo de la Sierra, Montejo de la Sierra, Prádena del Rincón, Puebla de la Sierra and La Hiruela, with a total surface of 15.230,8 hectares.

Its great landscaping richness, its Mediterranean ecosystems representativeness and its model of biodiversity conservation and application of sustainable development activities turns it on a good example of the select list of places of the world that integrate the Network of Biosphere Reserves.

Moreover, 90% of the territory of Sierra del Rincón is protected by means of different legal figures, like Hayedo de Montejo, declared Natural Site of National Interest in 1974 or the different Public Utility or Preserved mounts. Also, a great extension of Sierra del Rincón has been proposed as Place of Comunitary Importance of the Natura 2000 Network with the denomination of "Cuenca del río Lozoya y Sierra Norteª
