The zones in which the territory of Biosphere Reserves is divided to fulfill the mentioned functions are corresponded with the following types:

• One or several nuclei zones, composed by areas with the greatest environmental value and, therefore, in which the greatest efforts are dedicated for the conservation and protection at long term
  
  
• One or several buffer or damping zones, surrounding or bordering to the previous ones, and where compatible activities with the objectives of conservation and economic development can be carried out.
  
  
• One transition zone, where forms of sustainable use of resources are fomented.
